Detour - Immersive Audio Tours App Reviews

Most creative tour I’ve been on!

I absolutely loved the Detour! I first heard about your app about a year ago when I downloaded the free tour of "Beyond the Painted Ladies” in San Francisco. I picked the Haight-Ashbury tour this time because I am reading a book about SF history and the first part of the book is set in Haight-Ashbury during the Summer of Love. The detour was perfect because it was a behind the scenes look through the eyes of someone who was there during that time period. My favorite parts were the lockbox at the first free store (great idea!) and I loved when the tour took me into the guitar shop. You’ll have to take the Detour to experience the rest! Overall, great tour and Ill definitely be doing the Castro one next!

Super fun !

It was great. My family and I loved the Detour and it exceeded expectations. We chose Haight Ashbury tour because we were interested to hear about San Francisco during the generation we grew up in. We are looking forward to doing more Detours around The City.

Molly

The Detour was so much fun! My mom was visiting Austin, and my friends and I had been wanting to do the tour for a while, so we had a group outing. The sync function worked really well for us with only a couple of hiccups along the way. Its great that the tour is linked with our GPS so we could go at our own pace, and it helped create suspense - such a strange and uncanny feeling to think we were standing in the exact location where a gruesome incident took place. We loved going in historical buildings we would have never known about before--loved the labyrinth at the church and looking at the records in the library! The whole experience was better than we could have expected.

Cool Gray City, Architecture and Fishermans Wharf Tours

My family and I have taken the above three tours and each was absolutely fascinating, educational, entertaining and fun. Detours should be a MUST for every visitor! The audio is very clear, the directions easy to follow, current, accurate and well-paced. The content is amazingly well-researched and interesting. Go! Take the Detour!

Beyond my expectations

I can honestly say that since I went on the detour, I think about it often and actually miss my time walking and listening to the apps narrative. I know what it is! The Beat Generation tour truly inspired me to be a more creative, daring, and courageous elementary school teacher (in other words anybody can be an artist at whatever they do). Not only did the app take me to another time and place, but it brought me to a different mindset! We started with the Beat Generation detour because we love going to North beach. I learned about detour because I had been looking for a community based app that does what you do and yours popped up. Is detour available in other languages? If not, that is something that would be awesome. :)

Excellent

The GPS works great, so the audio is 100% in sync with your pace. The content is very accurate, the guides interesting, and the tours super fun. I loved it.

Great way to explore

So far Ive taken one of the tours in San Francisco and it was great; very informative with unique stops and interesting "guides". Looking forward to trying more tours!

Family fun

Adult, ten year old and fourteen year old walked Cool Gray City and Haight Ashbury together. It is so much more than a walk by named places. Loved the metaphysics of it!

Favorite way to experience a city!

Detour was the best tour experience I have ever had. I dont usually review things, but I truly enjoyed your product and will be planning trips to other cities that you are featuring as soon as they go live! I am not kidding, as soon as they are live please let me know, Austin and Chicago, here I come! I travel a lot for work. Detour allowed me to actually enjoy the city I am visiting without having to dig through cheesy Yelp reviews or strike out by listening to my hotel recommendations that take me to touristy and crowded pedestrian malls.

Great date option! So fun

A friend and I chose the Beat Generation detour for a few reasons: - She was visiting and had been influenced by those authors. - 1.5 hours was more manageable than 2 hours. - It offered a great tie into local history. - It was a great date option :) The tone of the narrator, depth and honesty of the coverage, and the option to hop on/off were all perfect. So, too were the tips about not wandering into bars and restaurants with ear buds on. Unless I missed it, perhaps theres an opportunity to provide more of that kind of information up front. Thanks again for a great app!

Love exploring my city with Detour

I’ve learned so much and really enjoyed exploring my city through Detour. Highly produced audio with interviews, music make walking the city so much better. I’m on a quest to do every single tour :) Highly recommended!

Amazing immersive experience

I have had Detour on my phone for at least 18 months. Havent found the time to open it until last weekend. I am FURIOUS with myself for not doing it sooner. It was a fantastic experience! My teenage daughter and I did the "Cool Gray City" tour of SF and we were blown away. It was fun, immersive, and highly informative. My daughter is asking me to do another one this weekend. The coolest thing about the app is the sync feature -- you and your friends can listen to the tour and pause and restart -- and all of you stay in perfect sync. Its a simple thing but it allows you to experience the little surprises together, which is fun. Highly recommended.
